Last night we stayed at Ayr but we arrived after dark and left early so didn't do anything in a the area worth posting. Today we're heading to Bolder Creek which is West of Mackay. (UPDATE The navigator was out by hundreds of kilometres and we're near Rockhampton)
The tallest single drop water fall in the country, at 268 metres it certainly is spectacular. Just for fun the eldest boys and I did the walk to the base. All of the info in the area says you need to be quite fit... there is a reason for those...
Another day and another camp with us as the only tourists. There is something to be said about holidays outside of the term breaks :) This is a great spot, the kids made a cubby while the grown ups packed up... again! http://youtu.be/8VmX1ypOdCU Total distance traveled: 4448km
The day started with visit to the damn dam wall. That water falling gave me the idea to visit the local water falls. What better way to spend a day than going to waterfalls. Not exactly what the navigator had in mind for an adventure. Millaa Millaa was the first...
"We didn't spend anywhere near enough time in this place", something that we keep saying more and more as the trip goes on. We should have given ourselves more time here.
Another one of those local suggestions... who wouldn't want to see the Worlds biggest Amethyst Geode. There are lots of great items in this collection including the giant geode. If you look very closely you might see what scared the kids.
It has been one Acton packed adventure after another. Train up the mountain, sky rail down, snorkeling on the great barrier reef, ice creams and fishing off the pier in Palm Cove. Very happy campers.
Our trip to the reef was to Passion Reef which is about 30 km out which took about 2 hours on the Passions of Paradise. The second stop was Michaelmas Cay. The big kids went snorkeling while the little kids went on the glass bottom boat.
Scenic Railway up the hill and Skyrail down. We had a lovely day just sitting back and enjoying the scenery. A few highlights from the photos below are camouflaged butterfly that seems to blend in to its surrounds, a missing plane, the menu off the blackboard is green when on kids hands,...
Warnings aside the boys finally got to swim in the ocean within the stinger nets. Very nice place and the locals were extremely friendly.
