It was a rather warm day, we had millions kilometres to travel and we left Lightning Ridge way too late but seeing the monstrous V2 rocket in the paddock made it worth the effort. The kids had no idea what we were doing or why we drove an extra 13 km into a farmers paddock in the middle of nowhere.
Even from about 6 km a rocket launching in the distance looked awesome as we drove in. There were some EXTREMELY excited people in the car.
There was lightning on three sides of us way off in the distance as there had been on previous camps but this night was a little different. Wind suddenly came from nowhere and was horrendous, it seemed to contain half of a paddock. Marquees were being blown down and away, as was a lot of other things. I thought our camper was a goner, I may have aged a few years and it scared the poo out of the littlies but we survived. Just for laughs mother nature sprinkled just enough water on everything to make the dust into mud.
